Not all Writers are Created Equal - My Past Defines Who I Am

Hi, I'm Shannon Walker-Lembke. I've spent my professional career working myself out of a job.  In 2001, I was working as a nuclear engineer at Rocky Flats, a former nuclear weapons site located just outside Boulder, Colorado. During the eight years I worked there, our mission was to clean up the site and close it down. Since I wanted to stay in the Denver/Boulder area, and didn't want to travel all the time for work, I knew I needed a completely different job.

With a  little soul searching, I found a new path.

I took a week vacation by myself and went through the What Color is Your Parachute? book and workbook.  After that week, I decided I wanted to write for my next career. Writing has always been one of my favorite activities – even when it was long technical reports or detailed white papers. Being able to communicate well on paper has always been satisfying. I also wanted a variety of projects and flexibility in location and schedule. So, I decided freelancing was how I would write.

Write Advantage Inc. actively began business in September of 2002 with my first paying client in November of 2002. Today, my clients are diverse and at various levels of sophistication or maturity with their business. From large, international corporations to small, independent professionals, I provide commercial writing support and copywriting for a variety of business sectors with a wide range of writing needs and specialize in the B2B marketing and online marketing areas.

My writing was key in several big client successes.

• A General Schedule contract for one client
• Two $200 million contracts and international work for an engineering and construction company
• Multiple contracts at new locations for a third client

My goal is to use Write Advantage Inc. to help businesses struggling with writing projects get their message clearly delivered to their audience. 

Whether the project is internal company procedures or web site copy, I team with clients to reach their goals.  I measure my success by the success my clients experience using the materials I write. Since I began freelancing, nearly all of my clients have become repeat clients.
